Baptist World Aid Australia –BWAA
Baptist World Aid Australia (BWAA) is a Christian organization which funds development activities in at least 15 countries across Africa, South Asia and South East Asia. BWAA has supported projects in Cambodia since 2003 and currently supports two partner organisations, both situated in Phnom Penh. Funds are available for development activities of Christian faith-based organisations only.
Goals and Objectives: BWAA’s focus is on addressing the symptoms and causes of absolute poverty amongst the poorest of the poor, with special emphasis on the livelihoods of women and children.
Theme: BWAA is interested in the following sectors: social mobilisation, water and sanitation, work with people with disabilities, community center activities. Formation of savings groups and enterprise development activities, vocational training and non-formal education are also of interest. Some relief funds are available and can be applied for as required throughout the year.
Supported programs should be participatory and demonstrate some degree of long-term sustainability.

- Local/Cambodian NGOs (LNGOs/CNGOs)
- Others (Churches and Christian faith-based organisations).
Selection Criteria: The project implementer must be a Christian Church or faith-based organisation conducting community-wide development activities. Project design should involve target group participation and consider gender and environmental issues.
Proposals from non-faith based organisations will not be considered.
Application Information: Baptist World Aid Australia will accept and review concept papers. Uninvited proposals are accepted but not encouraged. Funding is allocated only once each year. All proposals must be submitted before the end of February, each year, for the project year starting the following July (project period July – June).
Budget Information:
- Funds can be used for program and activity costs, equipment, training, capacity building, savin gs schemes, people with disabilities, advocacy and disaster relief.
- Funds cannot be used for travel abroad, expatriate salaries, welfare, political or religious activities.
- BWAA prefers to fund program costs but may cover some overheads; co -funding is accepted.
Proposal and Project Information: The length of the funding is one year (July to June) but projects can be extended. On-going projects can submit a proposal for consecutive years funding. Approval for extending projects will be based on satisfactory completion of reporting requirements and appropriate use of funds as well as availability of funds.
- Proposals should be written in English.
- There is no standard application form but proposals must include a logical framework matrix and a detailed budget. In some cases applicants may be asked to complete a gender & human rights, environmental and organisational capacity checklist.
- It takes approximately 4 months to proceed applications.
