Catholic Association for Overseas Development (CAFOD)
The Catholic Association for Overseas Development (CAFOD) raises funds from the Catholic community in England and Wales, the UK government and the general public so that it can: promote long-term development; respond to emergencies; raise public awareness of the causes of poverty; speak out on behalf of poor communities; promote social justice in witness to Christian faith and gospel values. CAFOD works with more than 500 organisations worldwide to combat poverty. Through a diverse range of development work it is helping communities build a better future for themselves. CAFOD has been working in Cambodia since 1984 where it first supported CIDSE.
Goals and Objectives: To combat poverty.
Theme: CAFOD is interested in supporting HIV/AIDS projects with a significant advocacy component, networking element or those projects that fall within the national framework of continuum of care. Another theme is environment & natural resource management and livelihoods particularly those that focus on advocacy and have clear approaches to working with communities.

Selection Criteria: Potential partners should be officially registered; have an official bank account in the name of the organisation with at least 2 signatories; have financial policies; and a clear organisational structure.
Application Information: CAFOD prefers to have a dialogue with a potential partner before a proposal is submitted. A programme officer from the UK comes to Cambodia twice a year and is open to meeting interested parties to learn about project ideas.
CAFOD will then invite proposals from organisations that it is interested to support. Unsolicited proposals are not accepted.
Budget Information:
- Starting partners will only be funded for 1 year and the budget will not exceed $30,000; preferably much smaller. When the relationship builds on this amoun t can increase.
- Funds can be used for advocacy, networking among others.
- Funds cannot be used for promotion of distribution of condoms.
- Overhead and core costs may be supported but cannot be requested in isolation.
- CAFOD prefers co funding partners.
Proposal and Project Information:
- The funding period for a new partner is 1 year.
- Ongoing partnerships are usually for 3 years, depending on the capacity of the organisation.
- Projects can be extended.
- Proposals should be written in English.
- There is no stan dard application form but CAFOD has guidelines for proposals.
- It takes about 3 months to process an application.
