Christian Aid (CA)
Christian Aid (CA) is an agency of churches in the UK and Ireland. CA works wherever the need is greatest, irrespective of religion or race. Inspired by Christian values, CA believes that all people have the right to a full and decent life. CA believes in strengthening people to find their own solutions to the problems they face, therefore currently more than 500 overseas partners are supported. CA has been active in Cambodia since 1979.
Christian Aid’s corporate priorities are: secure livelihoods, economic justice, accountable governance, HIV/AIDS, and strengthening the movement for global justice. Goals and Objectives: To work with partners around the world to eradicate poverty and injustice.
Theme: A variety of themes are of interest to Christian Aid. For example child protection (from trafficking and exploitation). In community dev elopment: integrated rural development, capacity building in rural communities, self-help groups. Support to local organisations for capacity building in the fields of critical analysis, research and community -based needs analysis; advocacy and networking. In the human rights & democracy theme: community -based peace-building, conflict resolution of fisher folk, farmers and forest users but also education, public awareness, information support and advocacy on domestic violence. HIV/AIDS: AIDS orphans and in health issues: indigenous women and children’s health; capacity building of community health workers and traditional birth attendants.

Project Area: CA is currently supporting partners in Siem Reap, Kampong Thom, Ratanakiri, Koh Kong, Preah Vihear, Kandal, Kampong Chhnang and Pursat.

Application Information: Christian Aid will accept concept papers but prefers dialogue with a potential partner. After a concept paper and/or dialogue CA may invite potential partners to develop a full proposal. While CA accepts uninvited proposals, it is unlikely these will be successful due to limited resources.
Budget Information:
- The Small Project Fund is for specific one-off initiatives or small pilot programmes.
- Small Project Fund (SPF): below UK£10,000 (US$17,000).
- Long Term Funding (LFT): from USD17,000 and higher.
- Funds can be used for training, research, capacity building, advocacy, child protection, networking, ect.
- Overhead and core costs are usually only granted to organisations with whom CA has had a long-term relationship.
- Christian Aid accepts co -funding.
Proposal and Project Information:
- Funding can be for short one-off initiatives or for a longer period e.g. one to three years. All projects are subject to reappraisal after three years.
- Projects can be extended, with a new proposal.
- A proposal should be written in English.
- There is no standard application form. CA would like the following to be included in a proposal: organizational information as origin, structure and aims; vision and mission; some information on its current funding context. Project information: reasons why the project is needed; analysis of socio -political and economic environment; key problems, issues or opportunities that the project aims to address; target groups expected to benefit from project activities and details of how they will participate in the project; the overall goal, objectives, outputs, activities, resource inputs, assumptions, risks and constraints of the project and, if it is ongoing, the impact it is having to date; clear indicators of how the project will be monitored and evaluated.
- It could take anytime from a few days for SPF to more than a year for LPF proposals to be processed, depending on the relationship with the partner and budget availability.
